What do you do with those rusted old bird feeders and chipped up bird baths? Paint them! A fresh coat of paint can turn rubbish into a statement piece. Spray paint is a really quick and easy way to renew. Items with more intricate details may require a can of paint and a brush. When painting certain wooden objects (like my flower boxes built from repurposed fence pickets), I definitely recommend using a brush and can of paint. I tried spray paint, and it does not work very well.
Paint comes in all kinds of varieties. Several years ago, I wanted a more formal look and chose to go with a copper metallic finish. My bistro set looked better than the day I bought it.
This year, I love a surprising pop of color. I had a rusty old Chinese lantern on my patio and a dingy flower hanger collecting dust in the garage. A little spray paint made a vast improvement and earned them places of honor in the yard. Paint makes it so easy to keep changing items to reflect your current style. My birdbath has already had a couple of coats of paint.
Take a look around your yard and garage. Is there anything that you can refresh and enjoy again? Give it a try, and have some fun with it!
Sid’s Thoughts on Refresh: (Albeit a different kind of refresh.)
